Atlanta confirms this trade to help fill a huge gap at 1B. If Goldy hit the FA market, he would go for $30M or more (Votto money). Unfortunately, while Dom is talented, he is not on the right side of Mets management and is at risk of being held back part of 2018 and beyond. In all honesty, I am not high on Dom's early career. Potts and his power upside may come back to bite me; however, Goldy is worth it. Intl money is worthless to me as some clubs are stacking their limits for runs at the highest prospects. 1st rounder will be missed but I have confidence I can grab guys throughout the draft that can build my minors depth.

I think Goldie would have received somewhere between $17-20m per year in free agency. DBacks are weakened by loss of their best player but get some talent for an expensive re-sign. Braves get a stud to add to Blackmon, Cano, Ozuna, and Cruz but may lack the cap space necessary to add enough depth to get deep into playoffs.
