I love trades where teams deal for junk they hate LESS.
We didn't want to wait for Niemi to turn it around or sign with a KHL/SHL/DEL team so moved him in exchange for a bag of pucks and a water bottle. Wideman, Bogosian and Hjalmarsson are the pucks (read dead weight). DeSmith is the water bottle, handy to have around. We also like the smaller cap hits that we can buy out or deal for other people's junk we might like more. Good to get this done. Thanks for the talks Beef!

Montreal wins this by virtue of getting Pitt's new backup, not to mention unloading that terrible Niemi contract

:iatp::thumbsup::thumbsup: Any time guys can swap their bad contracts it's a win-win. Giving the immediate win to Montreal but the Sabres might be better off later in the season.

:iatp: That's a doozy of a deal. Time will tell who wins this but on the surface it looks good for the Habs right now. But goalies are still valuable in this league.

Montreal wins by moving a large contract with a longer term for several smaller but similarly bad contracts with shorter term. Sometimes other people's junk is more attractive.
