Just wondering, can a FA player be signed to a 1 year contract and extended at a lower price before the season starts or during the year? Thanks

hockeyfreak6000 said a new FA signed for 1 season cannot be extended until the season is completed.
i asked about the possibility of signing a guy like bryzgalov to a imaginary 1yr $50m contract then extending him at $8m immediately after winning the bid... and it was a no. but i think that applies to the original signing team only.

Ok thanks, I thought I read something like that earlier. You mention it applies to original team only. So to my understanding, a player on a 1 year contract can only be extended before or during the year if he has been acquired in a trade. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
