I am wondering, is it truly necessary to have waiver trades approved by the TC? If players already cleared waivers, then every team had a shot at claiming them and thus any deal will be fair. Just wondering how the league feels about this.

I think they should be approved by the TC. Often times not placing a waiver is simply an economic decision. Plus, I don't see how their availability is an exemption since theoretically every player on a team's OTB is available and we don't exempt those players.

I tend to agree with Daniel here and here's what I think. The MLB players someone MIGHT want to trade in a potential deal have to clear waivers anyway. I can't waive Fukudome and then attempt to trade him for another MLB player WITHOUT that particular player clearing waivers as well. There have been lots of vetoes this year of trades (some of mine included) and its pretty tough to match up vet for vet in a trade come August. Take the extra month of voting on trades which could drag on for 36-48 hours for a trade and let's just let them go thru. That way, the team acquiring proven production for the stretch run can get his player THAT day and put him in his lineup that day or the next day.

Waiver trades can include all players that have not had MLB experience, so yes the TC is still necessary. If someone wants to trade three top 10 prospects for an overpaid scrub, there should be a review process.
