The Florida Marlins accept this deal.
We will receive a reliable closer and two young talents, including the AL ROY of 2009. We will also get two more first round draft picks and our financial situation will be more flexible.

The ONLY aspect of this trade that I question is the $7.5m cash. Can I get a ruling from an RC member as to it's validity?

The money is correct

Approved

I'll approve it, even if I don't understand the why of it.

I thought the rule was that that the team taking on net salary couldn't give out cash as well based on the posting in the RC section. The Tigers took on $5.5 million in salary and reimbursed the Marlins another $10.5 million in cash for draft picks and Francisco. The Tigers net salary commitments increased $16 million for 2010 in this deal while the Marlins went down $5.5 million.

I thought that the rule was that the team taking on net salary couldn't give out cash as well. The Tigers took on $9 million in salary and reimbursed the Marlins another $12 million in cash for draft picks and Francisco. The Tigers net salary increased over $20 million in this deal while the Marlins went down $9 million.
you are allowed to give what it cost to sign the draft picks which was 7.5 for the draft slots of 3 pick and 9 pick in 1st round. and rest money was to offset the contract or fransisco
-
I interpreted the ruling to mean that the bonus to sign the picks was factored in to calculate net salary for the team receiving the picks.
-
Here's the was I see it:
Tigers took on Hanley's 11.5 mil
Marlins total salary received plus bonuses based on slotting was 13.5 mil
That means the Tigers could only give 2 mil yet they gave 10.5 mil.
-
As much as I don't agree with this trade, it is in fact within the rules. Tigers are taking on 11.5, plus whatever of Francisco's salary, plus the money for the draft picks - which is legal.
-
The amount of cash received in a trade cannot exceed the net increase in salary received, where the next increase in salary is determined as:
[Total salary received + Total slot bonus for picks received] - [Total salary sent + Total slot bonus for picks sent]« Last Edit: February 15, 2010, 05:27:15 PM by Brewers GM »
By your reply, I take it you are not using the above rule that was suggested by the Brewers.

I know this deal has been approved, but a couple of comments. Francisco and Bailey's values are limited in our scoring format because of how few innings they pitch. The draft picks are huge and the value of a 1st round draft pick, especially that early, has been given plenty of credence. Throw the cash in there and you have a money making deal for the Marlins. Now, this goes against what Hank has done in the past by signing Josh Johnson and trading him for a similarly priced Jered Weaver. I think the Tigers could have sent another grade A prospect, but they landed the negotiations well.
