Title: Edmonton Releases Minor League Player
Post by: SizzRat on August 19, 2011, 09:58:59 AM
The Edmonton Oilers release MiLR prospect Alexandre Giroux.

After choosing Brett Ritchie in the 2nd Round, the Oilers are at their max (13 players) for the MiLR. This move will allow them to continue in the Entry Draft.

I didn't realize we had to clear roster space for the draft.
Is this what the commissioner confirmed?

Read the MiLR rules and it doesn't mention anything about MiLR limits during the draft. So that should usually mean roster limits aren't enforced until the start of the season. http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=25463.0 (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=25463.0)

Well, I can wait until the start of the season to cut him if I have to, but either way he won't be on my roster at the beginning of next season.

So, I'd still like to release him now, if possible.

You can have a full MIlR roster but when you draft another player you need to sign him, another player, or relase one current player on your MiLR right away so you don't exceed 13 players.
