Title: Calgary trades for Schmaltz & Brodie (CGY/NSH)
Post by: DToxFan on January 21, 2017, 10:09:23 AM
Submitted for review to the Trade Committee is a deal between Calgary and Nashville:

To Calgary Flames:
C - Nick Schmaltz (2014: 1/20 - 0 Games)
T.J. Brodie, $3.4m (2016-2019)
Devante Smith-Pelly, $1.2m (2015-2017)

FOR

To Nashville Predators:
Jaccob Slavin, $0.2m (2015-2017)
Stephen Johns, $1.5m (2016-2019)
Round 2 - 2017  (from Senators)

We feel TJ Brodie is an excellent case of buying low. He also offers great value when not learning a new Head Coach's system. At 26 years old, with close to 5 years of experience he has lots of upside. However, the key to this trade for Calgary is Schmaltz who fits our profile of the ideal Flames player. Smith-Pelly is most welcome for depth.

We thank BurkesBoys and the Predators.

:thumbsup::iatp: Preds confirm! Shopped around for additional depth D. Wasn't planning on dealing Brodie plus Schmaltz but I get two D to replace the one I lose and that helps us out. Thx DTox!

:iatp: Contenders will be making more headlines over the coming weeks.
This deal fills needs on both sides.

:iatp: I think Preds win now and Flames win next yr. Nick Schmaltz is a great add for Calgary while Johns is great in FNHL's format.

Nashville gets the edge as they benefit more immediately as a result of this trade. However, long term the Calgary Flames will see a strong return on this trade next season when Schmaltz plays a top 6 role, Devante finds a new home and Brodie regains his scoring touch.
