Detroit trades:
RP Barnes, Matt, $0.5m (P-2018)
CI/OF Rodriguez, Sean, $0.5m (2017)
SP Paxton, James, $0.5m (P-2017)

Giants trade:
RP Oh, Seung-Hwan, $0.5m (P-2019)
SP Gray, Sonny, $5.5m (2021)
X-Gray, Sonny, Cash Exchange, $5.0m in 2017

The Giants are very pleased to have to opportunity to add a super utility player to their roster in Sean Rodgriguez.  With eligibility in three positions, Rodriguez helps offset the Giants inability to secure a CI during the current free agency.  In James Paxton, the Giants are getting a comparable SP to make up for the loss of Sonny Gray.  The Seattle defense has improved and it should help Paxton's success on the mound--if he can stay healthy.  Health was also a concern with Gray, but Paxton can be resigned for less and will be on a shorter contract.  Giants hate losing Oh, but Barnes is an adequate replacement and RPs are easier to replace than hitters (as the current CI bidding can attest).
