Rocks do this deal to obviously cut cap space to resign Bruce and Bucholz, but a small market team cannot afford to pay that much money on an aging pitcher who will only get worst over time. The addition of Zito gives me a decent replacement at a fraction of the cost. Betancourt will get traded out of Atlanta eventually and gives me some solid value out of the trade.

Did the Mets win claims on Affeldt and Burnett? Did the Rockies win the claim on Zito? That is the only way this deal is allowed.

Mets also claimed burnett and do to there worse record and being in the same league as the waiving team they won the claim.
