Title: Cubs - Marlins Trade 1-15-17 12:01 am ET
Post by: jpmanchester on January 07, 2017, 06:19:29 PM

Cubs Trade:
OF Toles, Andrew, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Rivera, TJ, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI/MI Kieboom, Carter, $0.5m (P-n/a)
RP Ramos, Edubray, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Smith, Josh, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Martinez, Nick, $2.5m (2017)

Marlins Trade:
SP Colon, Bartolo, $2m (2017)
SP Tillman, Chris, $6.5m (2018)

Cubs accept. Looking for some starting pitching help and paying a high price in youth to get it. I really like Toles/Rivera chances to get full time jobs very soon, but I have my starting lineup set so sacrificing depth for SP needs. I have a whole bunch of question marks in my starting rotation. Colon's a one year rental but I do really like Tillman still and he will likely be extended so there is some long term value here as well I believe. Plus this should help keep :CHC: competitive this year as I push for the repeat.

Note that Kieboom was drafted this year so will be eligible for trade in a week or so. We just wanted to get it posted and in process. Can hold for a few days if needed.

I agree I get some stars in Toles and Carter and fill big needs for me at MI and OF and I get out from under some contracts so I can make some moves in FA which I need. The rebuild has begun.
