Cubs Trade:
CI Rios, Edwin, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Scivicque, Kade, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI/MI Forsythe, Logan, $16m (2020)
Cardinals:
MI Tulowitzki, Troy, $15m (2017)
Cubs agree. Story was much better than I anticipated, so I have extra MI. Looking for a one year backup MI, between Tulo and Rivera I should be good. And frees up some salary for future years after bringing Wright's $20M on board too. Had to add in a couple extra specs to make the deal work, but I think we both got what we needed. A long term MI and a short term MI. Thanks for the smooth negotiations. Cardinals to confirm when they can.

:STL: confirms.
I make this trade partly to give me a solid MI going forward. The contract on Forsythe is pretty awful, but he has produced more than Tulo the last 2 years and should continue that trend for the next few. I also needed to deal Tulo as he is more or less unable to be extended so I would have lost him next year anyway. Thanks for the easy negotiations!

I can't really see any upside for the :STL: in this deal. I understand how valuable productive MIs are in this league, but that $16.0m (2020) contract is simply awful. Is Forsythe really that "solid"? I understand Tulowitzki's health history, but if that is really a concern, why not simply get some more cost effective insurance in free agency? There are much better options in the free agent pool, and given Tulowitzki's expiring contract, with comparable production, I just don't get it. The deal helps the :CHC: in a big way--getting rid of a terrible contract is a big plus. As for the prospects, neither of them seem to be a negligible loss or gain.
This trade will be approved because it already has three approvals, but I will cast my disapproval anyway.

I know I don't need to respond to the veto, but I think it's ridiculous. The only reason anyone likes Tulo more is Colorado based production. Over the last 2 years Forsythe has Scored almost 1500 points more than Tulo. He's less of an injury risk and he's 3 years younger than Tulo. Sure the contract is awful, but I know what a premium middle infielders are in this league and Tulo is not extendable. The 70% rule means it would cost almost twice what he's worth to extend him. So while I still likely need to sign one middle infielder this year, I didn't want to set myself up to need to sign one this year and next.
