The Metropolitans and the Nationals, have made a trade. This is a make or break deal for the Mets franchise going forward.
:NYM: will send
CI Rodriguez, Alex, $27.5m (2017)
to :WAS:
for
CI Darnell, James, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Fuentes, Reymond, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Odorizzi, Jake, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Revere, Ben, $0.5m (P-n/a)
The Mets receive alot of talent in this deal. We were torn between a few deals. Before the deadline we fielded a few offers for Arod. The original direction of the Mets, was to let the farm progress and add pieces around Jose and Arod. However, with the growing performance of Profar and Harper just being himself, we changed direction. One might argue why not keep jose and arod and then let harper and profar join them. Here is the reason. The way this league is set up, no good player will ever be a FA. A difference maker will never be an FA. Its quite obvious the way to win is to load up on average to above average hitters and then get about 12 sps and go from there. So the Mets change course. We moved Jose for a good package of players and now move arod for a good package of players. Darnell is going to the OF that way he will up sooner. The reason we get 4 very solid or better specs is because of the amount of money we are paying for arod. The mets had 2 offers to move arod before the deadline in which we paid 0 money beyond 2011, however we received nothing in return. I strongly believe that paying arod to get 4 quality players is better than the cap space.
AROD pay scale
2011-2014 = 20m
2015 = 10m
2016 = 8m
2017= 4m
yes we pay alot of money up front. I figure it as 5m per player that I receive. Jake best of luck to you. Rob the good news is now with the new roster set up it will be a piece of cake for you to do this. If it was the old excel, and I was doing, I wouldnt do the deal, just becuz of the headache it would cause me trying to input it lol.
:WAS: to confirm.

I have a salary cap question. Do our rules for releasing players (75/50/25%) cover the gross or net amount of the contract? By net, I mean if another team such as in this case the Mets are paying for some of the contract. What would happen if hypothetically Jake cut A-Rod at a time later in his contract when the money Jake was paying exceeded the cap hit?

Nationals confirm. With a good young group of pitchers still in tow, I am going to attempt to grow my offense around a Rodriguez/Bautista/Jennings combo, and hope I can fill the gaps in FA/trades/remaining prospects.
Hopefully the remaining prospects I have pan out, and my young guys can compliment my power hitters I just acquired to form a formidable team.
Thanks Corey, hope it works out for both of us!

FYI to Rob, A-Rod is the only contract that doesn't fit in our six year window, so just add a comment noting the cash exchange in 2017. We can add it when the books move to 2012.
Roy, the savings from dropping a player are on the gross contract. Salaries reduced to below a cash exchange amount force the cash exchange to be lower.
