I have 2 examples of why this is not true.
First example is Zach Parise. He is on Pittsburgh's roster at 9M until 2015-2016. that equals 45 M bid.

Second I lost Dustin Bufuglyien to Anahiem after I bid 40M. He bid 45M (but Bufuglyien contract is still 8M per year, don't understand that cuz it should be 9M)

$1.5m - $5.4m, 3 years
$5.5m - $7.9m, 4 years
>=$8m, 5 years (the overall limit)

that is what i saw. I mis-read the rule....5 years is the limit but can be greater than 8million per year....!! Im sorry guys, frikken wife!!

Agreed.  There should be no cap for FA.  Crazy contracts in FA are the nature of the beast in fantasy sports.  Putting a cap on it means if you were the first to bid and you have cap space you can just buy the player.  There is no way a cap on FA bidding should be in place.  As much as I hate when the price gets driven up it is just the way it is.

42 million is the last valid bid, so we can go from there....Hockeyfreak6000 can yell at me when he gets online, haha!!

Also

In some leagues yes there is a cap to FA, but unlese Im still reading the rules wong theres no cap here, only the years as far as I can tell!!
