:NYY: makes a bold move in August now to get us 1 more big bat as well as a useful arm who is fresh coming off of TJ surgery. We use up the rest of our farm to make this move and dump a bad deal in the process.

:HOU: to confirm.

We have a major problem here because the 72 hour negotiating period has passed and Houston did not post a confirmation--so this transaction is invalid.

As noted in the PM sent to both GMs last night, and as stated in our waiver rules:

The rule is Item AX E-4.0 Negotiating Period- Line 2:
"A decision on the player must be made within 72 hours Negotiating Period. If, within this period, an agreement wasn't posted by both parties NOR was the waive canceled by the waiving team, then the player's contract is considered to moved to the claiming team in exchange for nothing."

Both GMs were alerted by several PMs during this process and now we're faced with a problem that was created by both parties.

We were working with a tight window waiting for the other claims to pass through and I literally could just get on at work to post on this deal. I don't really know what we're supposed to do now.

I claimed Moore. He's still open for negotiation. Escobar passed through and is open to be traded to anyone. Move Pence and Bailey "for nothing." The deal is now me paying New York $19m to get the stated players. If there has to be a trade I'll send him a prospect plus the cash. Does this work?

There are some things to be done, but there are a few givens in this scenario.

1:  SP Bailey, Homer, $5m (2017) and OF Pence, Hunter, $14m (2017) -- $19.0m (2017) are now a part of the Yankees roster and :HOU: is not entitled to any compensation for them.  There can be no cash exchange for either player.  In FGM, we only give Cash Exchanges for a specific player and it cannot exceed the amount of the contract.  We are not allowed to simply trade Cash in any trade without it being tied to the contract of a particular player.

2:  MI Escobar, Alcides, $6m (2017) can be traded to :HOU: for a (P-n/a) and SP Moore, Matt, $4m (2018) can simply be allowed to pass to :HOU: if the :NYY: renounce their rights to him.  That is $10.0m (2017) and :HOU: clearly has the cap space to cover it.

That reduces the amount of cap that needs to be found by :NYY: to $9.0m.  The :NYY: currently have $3.5m in cap space, so that would further reduce the deficit to $5.5m.

3:  The :NYY: will have to come up with the remaining $5.5m cap space needed by dropping players at the 75% rate.

There was really no "tight window" involved, you two could have made separate deals for the players involved since :HOU: was paying the 2016 contracts of both Pence and Bailey.  That trade could have been made with the prospects involved and then a separate trade involving Alcides and Moore could have been made for a lesser prospect or Cash Exchange following both players to :HOU:.

The alternative is to have the :NYY: make massive cuts in his roster to come up with $15.5m to cover the contracts of Pence and Bailey.  As of this morning, the deal posted in this thread is dead and a new alternative has to be developed.

The "trade" of Alcides and Moore to :HOU: for a (P-n/a) is subject to the approval of the Trade Committee, but given the circumstances, I'm sure your predicament will be taken into account.

Can he waive a large contract and I claim it with no deal posted so I take on the salary? He'll sit in cap violation for how every many hours and I take on the contract of like Pujols or Ortiz+?

I keep missing these deadlines (by so little time that the actual MLB would just say they were completed in time) over work or family and I'm trying to do right by the Yankees here.

Could be one solution; depends on what the Yankees want to do. I think he needs to absorb this but it looks like there are a couple of solutions

I can give him those 2 players I was gonna trade to him, I already have Pence and Bailey at this point. He could take on a bad contract to get me out of cap purgatory.

Alright. We just need to post a new deal and place whoever you want on waivers to get you out of cap trouble and I'll claim them.
