I thought we agreed that all contracts start the following year, not at the end of a contract?

That caveat rests only with salaries that will be less than the current salary.
-
I thought in this thread that is what we were agreeing to. Not that it matters, but if I was confused on the subject maybe someone else was as well.

I still think that the contract should start the following year just based solely on the fact that someone could sign a player for 5 years, then sign him for another 5 years after that, what's the point in having a ceiling? There is no stipulation on that. Plus I know myself, plus I believe Ben and Howe were all for consistency on all extensions, not just prospect and decreased player value.

OMG, Dan - this has been set in stone and we discussed it at length. Your 5-year + 5-year example is impossible as the limit for a contract is five years out for an extension (which is 2016 now) and five years for a new deal (2015 right now, 2016 for OFA).

omg? What are you a 18 year old girl sending a text? He can extend kinsle, which then takes hold in 2012 correct? Then in 2012 he can give him another 5 year extension starting at the end of his most recent extension...is that not feasable?
-
See the example below copied from the League Rules.
Likewise, the minimum standards apply to future years of an extension. For example, Kenny Lofton is the 11th ranked OF in 2011 (wouldn't that be something) which means he must be paid $12m. Let's say his existing contract is $5m (2012). The minimum years for a $12m deal is 3 years and the max is 5 years. The overall max term limit of a contract is five years after the current year. Lofton can be given a 4-year $36m extension starting in 2013, so he will be paid $5m in 2011, $5m in 2012, $12m in 2013, $12m in 2014, $12m in 2015, and $12m in 2016.

In 2012, he can give a one year-extension through 2017... that's about it. Thanks Roy posting the rule... and yes, I am an 18-year old girl texting you Dan. That keeps you safe from the show "To Catch a Predator", right?
