Since you are new ere I am obligated to inform you that retired players are subject to the same rules as releasing players. You will take a Cap hit of $2.5m(90%) in 2016 and $2m(60%) in 2017.
You may want to wait until after the trade deadline when cap hits are reduced to 75 and 50% respectively.

Ok thank you but I still want to release him. I'm going to need the space on roster but thank u once again for letting me know but I saw that and wish I could but after the fa market I'll be out of space to keep him.
