Youk is an elite player on a solid contract, but trading from a position of strength for a player in Mauer I've tried to acquire for a long time.  Good doing business with you Dan.

Reds agree. We do this deal for several reasons. For starters we bring Youk home to Ohio. Second, the Cincy front office loves us some Lava. Parting with Mauer was tough but hopefully Lavarnway will be in Boston in 2012, and Youk will make one of our CI's expendable in order to fill some other organizational needs.
