Title: Flyers - Oilers Trade INVALID
Post by: SizzRat on June 28, 2011, 05:09:30 PM
The Edmonton Oilers announce a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers:

Oilers Send:
LW Taylor Hall, $3.8m (2012-2013)
G Nikolai Khabibulin, $1.7m (2013-2014)
LW Linus Omark, $0.2m (P-2012)

Flyers Send:
G Sergei Bobrovsky, $0.1m (2011-2012)
D Andrej Meszaros, $4m (2013-2014)
G Michael Leighton, $1.6m (2011-2012)
LW Jody Shelley, $1.1m (2012-2013)

Edmonton is making this trade to pick up a top goaltending prospect in Bobrovsky and to shore up their defense. Losing Hall hurts, but this should make Edmonton better in the long run.

Flyers confirm.

I'm scared to death to lose Bobrovsky and I hope I'm doing the right thing.  He could turn out to be a franchise goalie.  I have faith that Tyler Hall is the real deal.  I feel I gave up a future top goalie and a good D but I think Hall is worth it.  Thanks for the negotiations John!

I can't approve, nothing is being given up by the flyers to land the 2010-1st overall select. They also receive a solid young player and Khabby who will get starts. Bryz just signed a 9 year deal with Philly so Bob will not get a chance and is a expensive re-sign the year after that. Leighton will be searching to be a team's backup and didn't play a game last season. Shelly isn't worth a bag of pucks. Basically Mesarezos is the only thing going Edmonton's way and doesn't seem like good enough compensation for a 1st overall pick who had 20 goals in just over 50 games last season.

Terrible opinion Drew sorry.  Khabibulin will retire in one more year.  Bobrovsky's career is not over because the Flyers signed a goalie.  He will be moved to another team.  Meszaros is a stud defensemen.  Shelley and Leighton are in the deal to move salary.  Bob is still a top goalie prospect.  He is only 2.1m to resign after that.  I'd like to hear some other opinions from the TC.  There is nothing wrong with this deal as Sizzrat and I negotiated for a while on it.  We are both happy with what we are getting.

I approved this trade because of the future implications. Bobrovsky may not start this year, but I made this trade to improve my team in the long run.

Even if the Flyers have Bob ride the pine this year, he'll enter the FA market next year and move to be someone's starter. At that point, I can re-sign a great starting goalie for pennies... you don't have a record like Bob did in his rookie year and then never again get a chance to start for an NHL team. His career is anything but over. Plus, even an average starting goalie will net you more FP than Hall.

Khabby, on the other hand, is on his way out. He will play this year and get some good starts, but his career is pretty much over at this point. Halfway through the season, Dubnyk will be the starter and Papps will be stuck with Khabby for the next 3 years.

Plus, Meszaros scored almost as many FP's last year as Hall did... and he's a D-Man!! With the injuries to Pronger and questions about his back, and with the increasing age of the Flyers blue-line, Meszaros will be a #1 D-Man for years. He's awesome at quarterbacking the PP, and has a wicked slapshot from the point. I expect him to bring in a load of FP for a D-Man.

Losing Hall does suck, but I'm getting a franchise goalie (even if it's not this year), and a #1 D-Man for years. I have a long-term strategy in place, and losing Hall (who I'd hafta resign for a boat load in a few years anyway) is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

P.S. Taking on Shelley and Leighton are merely salary cap moves for the Flyers that I can afford.

Still think a star player deserves star compensation. Your giving up Hall to receive a dman in Meszaros who will behind both Pronger and Timonen next season. Carle and Coburn are both on the rise on Philly defense as well. Hall played around 50 games and was in his first year, you don't think this year will be much much better.
Bob will probably not get quality starts for 3 years as Bryz will be there in Philly and after his dismal performance in the playoffs will not attract too much in the trade market. Only reason he got some many wins last season was due to Flyers defense being one of the best in the league.
I just don't see this as being a legit trade.

Based off the grossly unfair trade between Minnesota and Anaheim last year:

http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=14169.0

This trade should be allowed to go through.  We both presented cases why we want it to be approved.  It is a legit deal with no collusion.  There is no basis to deny the deal.  That trade last year was ridiculous and was processed.  This is a VERY fair offer that we are both happy about.

I'd like to hear opinions from the rest of the trade committee.

There is no way it's going to take 3 years for Bob to get a starting gig somewhere. James Reimer just signed a big contract with Toronto based off of 30 pretty decent games... Bob has to be the #1 trade target for anyone looking to add a goalie... if someone's starter goes down, I guarantee the Flyers phone will be ringing. I wouldn't even be surprised if Bobs got traded before the season starts. It makes no sense for the Flyers to keep Bobs at 1.75 mill/year to ride the pine for 75 games while they have so many UFA's & RFA's they hafta sign.

Also, there is no way that Coburn or Carle are worth more than Meszaros. Firstly, Coburn is a stay at home d-man with little offensive upside. A great player in real life, but not worth too much for Fantasy. And Carle doesn't have as good of a pass or nearly the shot Meszaros has. Timonen is one step away from retirement, and Pronger underwent back surgery which could keep him out until the mid-way point of the season. A few weeks ago he took an interview and said he hasn't even started walking yet!!

I don't think I can approve this trade either.... It is pretty on sided to phili. Hall and omark are worth more than that... As for that horrible trade last year. I hated it and voiced my opinion many times. But I had no power in stoping it.

I am sorry and I know you papps recruited SizzRat and requested that he must have the Oilers, so if seems to me that this trade was not legit or genuine but an attempt to make one team a lot better.

Dude don't question my integrity.  Just because you made a garbage trade to win doesn't mean other people do.  You made your veto vote and I could care less at this point about your opinion.

Actually, I was the one who stated I wanted the Oilers. Besides, you tried to offer me Danny Heatley for my first rd. pick (which will probably be top 5) and Taylor Hall... I think that is more unfair than the trade Papps and I agreed upon.

Again, this trade is designed to make me good in a year or two... Let's be honest, with or without Taylor Hall, the Oilers weren't winning anything this year in terms on Fantasy Hockey. They've got a young goalie splitting starts with Khabibulin, and they have glaring weaknesses at D - this is not a team that will magically turn itself around into a competitor overnight. This trade was a short term sacrifice for a long term gain.

If Bobrovsky goes on to be a great starting goalie with an awesome cap hit, you don't think I could trade him for a boatload of players that equal way more than Hall? It's a risk - and I understand it's a big one - but I think it's pretty unfair to say that I'm cheating because you disagree with the value of a trade.

Ask around the league and you'll see people who offered me far less for Hall. I let everyone know I wanted D and a Goalie for him, since I was able to get it, I pulled the trigger. I don't see any problem with that.

OK thanks for the explanation SizzRat.
Papps I was just stating my opinion and the facts that I have based on the trade thus far. Also this trade is not vetoed and you didn't have to re-work it. It only had 2 disappoves and Chris had not vetoed the trade as he is the only one who has the power to do so, I only disappoved the trade. Yes I agree that my trade wasn't a great trade but it got approved and as long as a trade gets 3 approvals then it can go through no matter what anyone else says unless Chris vetos it.
Let's not go out on an attack over my opinion on the trade.
