Title: Jays and Phillies Blockbuster deal
Post by: guak2005 on June 13, 2011, 10:39:32 PM

Jays give:

OF Abreu, Bobby, $5.5m (2013) X-OF Abreu, Bobby, Cash Exchanged on Contract (2011), $-5.5m in 2011 (From MIN)
P Samardzija, Jeff, $2m (2011) X-P Samardzija, Jeff, Cash Exchange on Contract, $-1m in 2011 (Don't remember who is paying that money)
MI-OF Zobrist, Ben, $16.5m (2014) The Jays will pay 9m in 2011 to even money out for this deal

for the Phils:

CI Wallace, Brett, $0.5m (P-2013)
MI Phillips, Brandon, $7m (2011)
SP Bedard, Erik, $4m (2012)
X-SP Bedard, Erik, Cash Exchanged on Contract, $-3m in 2011

This deal hurts me a little in production for the rest of the season and the Jays are very sad to see Zobrist go and to say goodbye to Abreu after only recently acquiring him, but the deal frees up lots of cap room for the future, lands me some good replacements and an SP to take over my injured starters. Phillies to confirm, thanks for the fast talks.

Phils confirm. I'm trying to win this year so I gave up Wallace. I will figure out my money situation for next year later. I want to win now and there is lots of competition in this league. I'm happy to have two solid MI.

Thanks for the negotiations Daniel!
