Pending approval of the earlier trade between the Pirates and the Cubs, the Cubs and Yankees are pleased to announce the following trade:
Cubs trade:
P Guthrie, Jeremy, $4m (2013)
OF Scott, Luke, $12m (2013) + $9m in 2011, $2.5m in 2012
MI Theriot, Ryan, $3.5m (2012)
to the Yankees for:
P Garland, Jon, $7m (2014)
SP Maine, John, $3m (2012)
OF Peguero, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)
The Cubs pay nearly all of Scott's contract in 2011 and take on Garland and Maine's contracts in order to give themselves additional cap flexibility in 2012 and beyond. Guthrie & Theriot are solid players on good contracts who should help the Yankees in their playoff push and the Cubs are happy to bring in another young, high-upside OF in Peguero. yanks take this deal to keep up with the recent trades of other teams im trying to compete with. it adds depth to my team and versatility for future trades or just in my lineup.
peguero was hard to let go, but his K #s concern me i hope he turns it around for you in chi town. thanks for the easy negotiations
