Title: Giants / Tigers Trade
Post by: johnbosma on July 16, 2015, 05:46:47 PM

The Giants and Tigers have agreed to the following deal:

Tigers send:
SP Trevor Bauer ($1.183m in 2015, arb 2016, arb 2017)
SP Cody Anderson (minor league contract)

Giants send:
SP Zack Wheeler ($480k in 2015, arb 2016, arb 2017, arb 2018)
1B AJ Reed (Augusta minor league team) (minor league contract)

Detroit makes this deal because there seems to be a strong chance that Wheeler comes back from surgery in the middle of next season at or close to his old form and while Bauer is a talented young SP, we aren't going to be winning any championships this season, so it makes more sense to trade him for a future asset. This is especially true because Wheeler has an additional year of team control.

I've been enjoying watching Cody Anderson's development (especially his recent big league performances), so it was somewhat disappointing to have to trade him but I really like A.J. Reed's long term potential and I'm excited about bringing him into the re-build mix.

This seems like the kind of deal that will work well for both teams in light of where we each are.

I to agree to the trade. It was hard to trade wheller but the value I got back I feel is well worth the risk.
