Title: Reds/Blue Jays Trade- 6/20/15 8:51 A Eastern
Post by: jblum on June 20, 2015, 12:56:00 AM
:CIN: trades
SP Archer, Chris, $0.5m (2015)

:TOR: trades
SP Urias, Julio, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Shipley, Braden, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Sizemore, Grady, $4m (2015)

Reds do this to get one of the best if not the best pitching prospect for Archer with another very good arm in Shipley. Sizmore was throw in for the Jays to get under cap. I didn't want to pay Archer 23m, thanks Daniel

Please move Urias to MLB roster, and Shipley to the minors

Drop:
OF Sizemore, Grady, $4m (2015) will pay full contract this year
OF Kemp, Trenton, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Jays approve.

Sad to see Urias go, who is my favorite player in the minors right now. But I have a chance at making the playoffs this year and Archer is just the player I need to put me over the top. I will not be able to resign him, but am happy to take this chance to win this year

Steep price to pay for a rental.

I'm not a fan of this trade.  As mentioned previously, it is a very high price to pay for a player rental.  I can see giving up one prospect for a player that was obviously not going to be re-signed by the trading team, but giving up two is very questionable.  I am going to cast an approval, but please note the information regarding rosters I have listed below.

 :iatp:

The Blue Jays salary cap violation is remedied by this trade, but the Reds are currently over the limit with their MiLB roster.

The Reds have an MLB roster of 40 and have 21 players on their MiLB roster.

Releasing Trenton Kemp makes the MiLB roster compliant.

The spot vacated by Chris Archer will be taken by Julio Urias.  Releasing Grady Sizemore will create a spot for Braden Shipley, but he must remain on the MLB roster if the this trade is approved because there is no room on the Reds MiLB roster at the moment unless another MiLB player is released.
