Title: Orioles/Cardinals Announce a trade
Post by: shooter47 on May 04, 2011, 10:28:19 PM

The Orioles and Cardinals are proud to announce they have come to terms on a trade.

Orioles Trade

CI Morales, Kendry, $11m (2015)
X-CI Morales, Kendry, Cash Exchange on Contract through 2012 (11M in 2011 and 6M in 2012)

for

C Myers, William, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Norris, Derek, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Matzek, Tyler, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI Davidson, Matt, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Lee, Zach, $0.5m (P-n/a)

To make room on the Orioles 40 Man Roster the Orioles are Releasing

RP Shields, Scot, $2m (2013),
OF Gillespie, Cole, $0.5m (P-n/a)
RP Feliciano, Pedro, $1.5m (2011)
CI Marte, Andy, $0.5m (2011)

The Orioles Agreed to this trade because it improves a very weak farm team for a team that is rebuilding and looking to compete in 2013.  Kendrys Morales is a good CI who is in the Major leagues but this team is currently not constructed to win now like the Cardinals are.  The orioles are excited about the prospects they received in return.  Wil Myers, Matt Davidson, and Derek Norris should help the Orioles lineup in the future as all are highly regarded prospects.  Zach Lee and Tyler Matzek are good young pitchers in the lower minors and have high ceilings and should help the roster in a few years.  The Orioles were willing to pay for Morales salary this year and part of his salary next year to improve the prospects sent back in return.  For a smaller market team with a limited salary cap this was a big concession that I was willing to make to improve my farm team.

The Cardinals agree to this trade.  We are giving up some top quality prospects in an effort to improve our playoff chances this year.  We are gambling that Morales is able to return to his previous form and contribute some much needed offense down the stretch.  Thanks to the Orioles for the easy negotiations and good luck on a major rebuilding project!

A king's ransom for Kendry, however he is free this year and over 50% off next year.
