Title: Braves/Cardinals Trade
Post by: Paul S. on April 28, 2011, 02:26:43 AM
Braves trade:
CI Morneau, Justin, $13.5m (2013)
Braves pay $2.5m of Morneau's contract in 2011
SP Carrasco, Carlos, $0.5m (P-2013)
CI-MI Infante, Omar, $4m (2013)

Cardinals trade:
SP Danks, John, $9m (2014)
OF Span, Denard, $0.5m (P-2011)
MI Aybar, Erick, $5.5m (2014)
P Kimbrel, Craig, $0.5m (P-n/a)

We make this trade to provide the needed power at CI and hope that Morneau is fully recovered.  Hopefully we didn't give up too much.  Braves to confirm.  Thanks for the easy negotiations Aubrey.

I confirm. I hope I am making the right move here. Morneau is a hard bat to replace in this format and at what I deem, a bargain of a contract. I get a good return on Morneau, however it does strengthen an already strength of my team (pitching staff). I hope that Aybar will be a consistent force for me at MI allowing me to use Prado as an Util guy. I'm optimistic that Span will keep it up and that will be enough for an upgrade over Gomez in the OF. Danks replaces my weakest pitcher on staff that is even points wise with my offense (almost impossible with the offensive preference in this league). Infante is a piece that I hate to move jsut because of the flexibility he allowed me in my day to day lineups and when making trades, however I got what I asked for in Craig Kimbrel (obviously a favorite of mine).

I like to add that it is especially hard to trade when to playoff hopeful teams are involved, however I think this trade improves both of our chances since it fills holes for both teams.

Paul, good negotiating as we both gave a bit. I hope this trade does us both well.

Both managers are veterans and have evaluated the situation.  Monreau is a good player, but comes with risk.

Paul understands the risk he is taking.  Both are vets and both have been successful.  I approve the trade.
