Drouin comes with cheap extension
Ekblad will be a 6m+ extension.
I like Drouin and feel he will be a franchise player for yrs to come. Having just added Z and Morrow I felt that lessened the blow of losing Aaron. I love this deal and feel Jonathan Drouin is a great player to build around in Buffalo. Thanks Pigs!

I wanted to get some added value for moving Johnny Drouin since he'll have a cheaper extension cost than the 3m he's currently making to the tune of 0.2m. Ekblad will be looking at a 6.0m extension since he's ranked top 20. I think BB gets a great deal that frees him of a 5.8 in cap for next yr mind you I'm not getting a bum outta this so I'm happy.

This is a surprising trade but one that the two team's appear to want. If I had either I would have waited another year but perhaps with Ekblad's expected extension contract valued at $5.9 Million, Buffalo felt it was best to part ways sooner than later. Overall this is a balanced trade.
Is Drouin really going to get a $0.2 Million extension contract? Incredible.
