The Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals are pleased to announce the following deal:
Cubs receive
P Chatwood, Tyler, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Chavez, Johermyn, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Thole, Josh, $1.5m (2013)
Nats receive
P Gibson, Kyle, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Guyer, Brandon, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Vizcaino, Arodys, $0.5m (P-n/a)
The Cubs receive a major league ready SP and an everyday C; two areas of need. I hated to give up both Gibson and Vizcaino, but I have some depth at SP in the minors and with Miller and Strasburg already in the pipeline, I felt that giving up Gibson and Vizcaino was something I could afford to do. Guyer may be more major league ready than Chavez, but the young OF has some upside and I feel the upside gamble is worth the risk. Only way I'm going to be able to obtain high-end offensive talent is by taking calculated risks every now and again. This deal was borne out of our Buster Posey discussions a few weeks back and I am glad we were able to get something done. Thanks for the easy and fair negotiations Jake. Best for luck.

Nationals confirm. I've got a man crush on Gibson. There really isn't much else to say....
Chavez was actually the piece I was most hesitant to move...check out his last year's stats to see why. But receiving Guyer in return eases the pain. Happy we were able to work something out Kris, thanks again.
