Title: Red Wings and Avalanche Trade
Post by: SlackJack on February 10, 2015, 11:31:24 PM
Matt Martin, $5.5m (2014-2018)
Andrej Sustr, $0.6m (2014-2016)
Chad Johnson, $0.2m (2013-2016-EL)

For

Alexander Semin, $5.4m (2014-2017)
D - Derrick Pouliot (2012: 1/8 - 0 Games)

Martin at 1.9PPG will be one of Detroit's top producers. Semin will be a buy-out candidate. In return for that and some bit pieces I feel I am netting a potential future stud. It will take a while to get on the right side of this deal but Pouliot should be up full time next season. The wait will be worth it and it won't be too long.

:DET-NHL: approves.

We feel that Semin can bounce back but he sure isnt helping us this year. Giving up Pouliot was really tough, as he is a great prospect and will be a top D-man soon. Martin is a solid pick up and the other guys give me some depth.

Thanks for the deal Slack!  :toast:

:iatp: Avs clearly cleaning house with their deals and contenders are shopping for useful players for a lng playoff run. Good deal but I prefer what DET is landing.

:iatp: Wings get the chicken dinner here. Izzy adds lots of good guys at all positions. Avs get a possible young studley D in Derrick Pouliot.

I think this is close. Pouliot is going to be real good and Pens need to let him mature a few more games. I like Martin a lot and Semin can rebound anytime he decides he wants to.

Based on the standings and Wildcard opportunities it would seem a little pre-mature for Colorado to sell, but it appears they are. I give the edge to Detroit for acquiring a useful package of players that can help immediately.

The standings don't reflect just how dominant the top tier teams are. I could make the play-offs but in no way do I contend. That can be seen from a mile away.

There are always surprises at the end of the season and top teams could easily need crutches to drag themselves into the playoffs like my Hawks last yr when Price came up lame-O and tanked my team's chances.
