Yankees Receive
CI Cabrera, Miguel, $19m (2015)
X-CI Cabrera, Miguel, Cash Exchange on Contract through 2012, $7m in 2011
and Boston will pay 3.5m (2011) only to even out the money
for
X-OF Markakis, Nick, Cash Exchange on Contract through 2014, $-4m in 2011
OF Markakis, Nick, $11m (2014)
CI Moreland, Mitch, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Salcedo, Edward, $0.5m (2012)
P Richard, Clayton, $0.5m (P-2011)
New York sends a package of youth to Boston. Headlined by Markakis and Moreland. We trade 2 good hitters in Kakis and Moreland, a Braves spec who yankee brass is not high on and the young Clayton Richard to Boston. Miggy Cabrera joins Arod and Youk to form the new bash brothers. Yankees feel that even tho they traded away some young talent, this move immediately makes them a contender!

Boston agrees to deal hated to deal top flight stud in division but got offer of solid youth and talent to fill roster for years to come. I agree to deal

Approved. Good return for a player like Cabrera.

Hey would NYY be way over the cap with this deal? Cabrera's salary is 19M PLUS 7M for this and next year.
-
Upon review yes. I thought that the 7m was a subtraction. It makes no sense to pay an extra 7m on a contract that you already have.

Wait I'm confused about this. How does a player get owed more money than his contract? I'd assume the money was a subtraction as well.

The positive cash exchange was included before trading $ was banned (another dumb rule IMO).

what was the dumb rule; that trading $ was banned or the trading money?
I will have to pay more attention to this later.

The ban on the trade of $. The more liquid the market, the better it is for everyone.
