Title: Another Ducks and Avalanche Deal
Post by: SlackJack on February 05, 2015, 07:18:33 PM

From :ANA:

Round 1 - 2015
Round 3 - 2015
Round 4 - 2015

for

Michael Ryder, $1.4m (2014-2016)
Alexei Emelin, $2.4m (2013-2016)

The rebuild is underway in Colorado. With Tinordi coming up I can move on Emelin. The picks will help stock our cupboards and a little more cap room doesn't hurt either. Thanks again Freak!!

:ANA: confirm

We are in a win now mode and this trade is helping us get there .

A late 1st round pick is a fair price for a solid D like Emelin .

Ryder is gamble here as I take the bet that he will be traded to a team that is more suited to his
scorer skills  :bump:

Thanks SlackJack  :toth:

This is more than just a rental as both players are signed through next year. Ryder is likely to be moved at the deadline to a better situation and it is on a pretty cheap contract. Emelin is a good D-man. Draft picks are valuable, especially this year in such a deep draft.

I see this as a 1st for Emelin, and a 3&4th for Ryder which seems pretty reasonable. This is a huge win for Colorado. And the Ducks don't have much of a farm system, but they do have some quality young players.

This took me a few days to think over, but I see it as passable.

:iatp: Draft picks are valued in FNHL however those 2 players are productive and on relatively cheap contracts for this league. Also those are destined to be late round picks. Regardless, both teams are building their franchises with a plan in mind so go for it.

:iatp: Ducks are big winners picking up 2 great fantasy scorers. Of course Avs know how to build through the draft so this could even out quickly in a yr or so.

A Win to Anaheim for acquiring two highly productive players to support their Play-off push without giving up anything in return from their Active roster nor their Minor League system.

I believe SlackJack is good at the draft table but drafting is still a bit of a gamble.
