Title: Rangers/Avalanche Trade
Post by: e40 on August 14, 2014, 11:42:38 PM
:NYR: and :COL-NHL: owners have agreed on the following trade

:NYR: trades

Marian Hossa, $5.3m (2017-2018)
Chad Johnson, $0.2m (2013-2016-EL)

:COL-NHL: trades

Mark Streit, $5.0m (2012-2015)
Philipp Grubauer, $0.4m (2013-2015)

:NYR: does this trade to get out of Hossa's long contract at his age and to get rid of a goalie that isn't in our long term plans. We get in return a young goalie in Grubauer that showed he has starter potential and another top d-man in Streit on an expiring contract. We also save cap for next season and on by trading Hossa and Streit possibly a one year rental. Grubauer should also be a low re-sign/extension depending on his situation this year.

The :NYR: biggest need this season was D-men so this trade and the trade for Weber helps us a lot this year.

Good Luck SlackJack and thanks for the trade

I have already replaced Streit with Niskanen in Free-Agency. Moving out Stewart cleared the deck for Hossa at RW. The contract term is IMO offset by the upgrade from Grubauer to Johnson. Thanks for the deal e40, glad to get it done.  :toast:

Teams are going after the pieces they like and getting it done! :judge:
Hossa's deal looks reasonable in the current market but he's closing in on his expiry date. Wonder how Chad will do on the Island. I like that package headed to :NYR: with Kimmo out, Streit should get more PP mins. and adding a young G like Grubauer is great for the Rangers future in net.

Another good trade for both teams. It is encouraging to see teams trading for needs and not just the sake of dealing.

A great example of two teams building with the same pieces but using different strategies.
