Flames announce a trade with Philly

TRADE TO :PHI-NHL:  4.3 Cap hit
D Nick Leddy, $2.5m (2012-2015)
D Dmitry Orlov, $1.8m (2012-2015)
Prospect C - Chandler Stephenson (2012: 3/77 - 0 Games)


TRADE TO :CLG:  5.0 Cap hit
C Ryan Kesler, $5.0m (2010-2016)

Flames deal 2 young D south of 25yo on cap friendly contracts plus a prospect to add a grizzlie battle worn but proven vet C. The value of kids like Leddy and Orlov got a boost seeing how FA bidding is higher for most midlevel D than most of us expected.

I will build Calgary up with scoring up front and some scrubs on D maybe so leave the FA scraps for :CLG: boys!

Flyers agree.  After seeing the insane prices on FA defenseman and being that I have two holes on my D I like this trade for me.  Kesler is a solid player but I get to fill two holes and I get a young spec in Stephenson.

3 for 1 in this case works for both teams.
I'm going to give the edge to :PHI-NHL: for turning an old guy with a new lease on his career after landing on a contender but coming off a few seasons of injury and poor play into 3 young guys. :winner:

Haha, I also think its a good move for both teams, but again I give the edge to Philly for getting two cheap D-men after seeing what FA for D looks like this year.

Advantage :PHI-NHL: in this deal.
Shaved 0.7m off their Flyer cap.
Added 2 young offensive minded blueliners.
Dealt a bigger contract for 2 smaller ones Philly can move easily if they want.
All that and a spec. :thumbsup:

Kesler is about the turn 30 so he's at the peak of his career. He's eligible at C/RW.
But yeah, given how FA has started with higher than expected prices on D I have to say I prefer what :PHI-NHL: is getting.

The Edge goes to :PHI-NHL: for getting more bang for their buck but Calgary is adding a potential first line Center who is leaving a rebuilding situation and moving to a contender. Good players changing teams.
