Title: Lightning & Redwings Deal
Post by: LIVE DynastySports on August 11, 2014, 08:40:36 PM
To Detroit
Niklas Backstrom, $3.3m (2012-2015)
Marian Gaborik, $2.7m (2014-2017)
Brett Connolly, $0.2m (2014-2016)

To Tampa Bay
Alex Stalock, $0.2m (2013-2016-EL)
Brendan Smith, $1.5m (2014-2017)

:TBL: made this deal for the upside of Stalock and pairing him with Niemi who he is pushing for #1 Goalie. Along with Jack Campbell we see ourselves with 3 #1 Goalies in (2016-17 & beyond). Time will tell.

We gave up Teddy Purcell and a 2nd for Gaborik, and depart with him reluctantly, but at the end of the day i take Purcell, Backstrom, Connolly, 2nd rd, for Stalock, Smith..is still a win.

Thanks for some really professional negotiations Detroit :toth:
Izzy to confirm.

Daddy approached me about Stalock a while ago, but it wasn't until I traded for Jake Allen that I became more ok with dealing him. Backstrom and Gaborik are both on the wrong side of 30, but Connolly still has plenty of upside. I see Backstrom and Stalock both as backup next year and beyond I'll have Allen. Connolly for Smith is something I feel good about, and Gaborik is in a good situation in LA and just got a long extension, now hopefully he can stay healthy.

Thanks for the deal Daddy!  :toast:

I hope you dont pause on my account. Although i respect all opinions.

I have sometimes been charged with going too aggressive after my guys, but I have a plan, always do, and this trade is a BIG PART of my plan.

We give up alot imo, but feel its vital to both our long term and short term success. We wont bail on our team either. Get ready for big things with :TBL:

If you pause for Detroit, well he is a big boy, he has earned his hockey rep, unlike myself. Let me whoop up on him ;)

This is a money league and so long as guys dont destroy their team and exit Im good.

:iatp:
Wings take this one. No doubt bout it! But I understand the new owner has a vision and is building towards it. Still, perhaps I dont understand the value of Stalock and B.Smith but seems like a lot of scoring to deal away for 2 lesser players.

I just want to say that a lot of this is about potential and long term plans. Backstrom is a backup on his way to retirement and Stalock is on his way to being a starter. Also if Backstrom doesn't retire, he'll cost a fortune to resign where Stalock has a longer super cheap contract. Both Gabby and Backstrom have large injury histories. Don't get me wrong, I still feel I win this, but it's pretty close, maybe closer than some think.

I believe in both you guys! TB and DET youre both super owners. I like the wheeling and dealing. Everyone has their own way of building a winner.

Like I said, its a money league and people have a strategy coming in and sometimes a specific deal makes more sense after another 3-5 moves. Im probably more scared that I cant figure out Daddy's plan enough to cut him off at the pass than anything at this pt. Haha

Its nice to be believed in.  :koolaid:

Most of my competitors believe me to be a complete moron, even after i end up spending all there $$$ at the end of the season. Somehow then i become a moron and a cheater

In these BIG LEAGUES all 30 teams cant win the pot each year. I have a plan...I always do. For the record I BELIEVE IM BEATING THE BREAKS OFF DETROIT IN THIS DEAL. Thats just me. Call me a moron if you think like profsl professional GMs on this site. Clutch your pocket book real tight when you do so ;)

Daddy has a big plan. It's a friggin onion with layer upon layer of complexity man! Never doubt a Flyer guy JD. :toast:

If we count straight pt totals changing hands :DET-NHL: is the Winner hands down gents. In my book, Brett Connolly alone would've bought B.Smith but that's my book on these kids. Then you got to think Bolts are paying for Alex Stalock (Nemi's handcuff) with old man backstop Nick Backstrom AND Marian Gaborik which is a high price but it's all a matter of opinion. I always thought Stalock was a depth guy but maybe Daddy has the inside scoop.  :disco:

I'm going to V-E-T...

:iatp: They paid. They play. Have fun with your new players boys! :toast:

just because I wouldnt make the deal doesnt mean it shouldnt pass. after what TB gave up to land Gabby, i think there's more value going one way. i thonk TB wouldve been better served retaining Mike Smith as a backup than ending up with Stalock.

The Tampa construction zone is busy and the rebuild in full swing  :toast:

I don't see this as a balanced trade and it hurts the Tampa franchise. More importantly it sets a bad benchmark for future trades in this league.

A Red Wing connoisseur trading away Brenden Smith is a statement of where Smith's value lays and similar to where I have him pegged.

As for Alex Stalock who will turn 28 years old this season he has never turned in what most of us would consider a successful season at a lower level or important tournament.

It takes 3 Vetos to void a trade. Count this as a statement vote and Veto #1.

I'm going to leave this open another day or so given the comments and the 1 veto.
I think everyone except Ripper, Hockeyfreak6000 have voted. But someone might change their vote. We will see.

I didn't know I had a vote, thought there was a T.C. I usually only vote when I don't approve.

I must say I appreciate the honesty of the TC, and most of all the vote of confidence shown in me by most.
No one likes a veto, but hey if it happens and thats your honest feeling, well thats why we have a TC.

Try to understand this is year 5 of the league, has :TBL: ever done anything but donate $$$ to the pot?
I aim to change that. Maybe not this year, but certainly less than 5 years. I gotta do that my way gents.
Daddy loves a challenge.  :toast:  :toth:
