What's the scenario when another manager has an FA offer out which is a $0.5m prospect contract, and I want to increase the bid. Am I bidding on a signing bonus similar to the draft?
i.e. I increase the bid to $2m, is this a $1.5m bonus for 2010 and then a prospect contract $0.5m (P-n/a), or do I have to offer him a major league deal with the $2m and state the years.
No bids from Seattle yet, keeping this powder dry...
Thanks,
Chris

I thought about this when I was in the shower this morning. The rules actually work out cleanly here. There are two options for the winner of the bid.
1) Pick the number of years and have it as a standard contract.
2) Choose a prospect contract and institute a one-year bonus of the final bid minus $500k

Got it - good ruling
