I think you can't do 4 years at that price. It has to be at least 5.5m each year for 4 years. An 8m bid can be either 3m for 3 years or 4m for 2 years or 8m one year. Unless you offer prospect contract with 7.5m bonus this season.

Daniel is correct. You can either do 7.5 mil signing bonus and a prospect contract, 3 mil a year - since it has to be even you have to bump the salary up to 9, or 4 mil over 2 years.

Where did that come from?
I cite the following from "Contracts" in the league rulebook:
Contract Limits
Except for any contract inherited in 2009, all contracts must be no longer than five years.  Also, for a given salary, all contacts (extension, FA) have term limits as provided below.

<= $1m, 2 years
$1.5m - $5m, 3 years
$5.5m - $10m, 4 years
> $10m, 5 years (the overall limit)

Well, I didn't read anywhere that the extension rules would aply here... I thought we could make long contracts with little money... Luckly people outbid me on those...

You bid 8 mil and won. The contract has to follow the guidelines of...

<= $1m, 2 years
$1.5m - $5m, 3 years
$5.5m - $10m, 4 years
> $10m, 5 years (the overall limit)

Now since Dominguez is a prospect you have a choice if you want to give him a huge signing bonus and pay him .5 mil a year as a prospect. Or you can give him guaranteed money, with the 8 million spread how you like given the above diagram. But, it has to be evenly distributed in .5 mil increments. That is why I said if you want to pay him 3 mil a year you have to make it 9 mil, or you could pay him 2mil a year for 3 years and give him a 2 mil signing bonus. Your best bet is just to take the hit now, and give him the signing bonus. That way when he gets the call - if it isn't soon, you have him on the cheap for several years. By the above construct you cannot do 2 mil at 4 years.

Remember that the parenthesis in the rules says (extension, FA) that means that they are not only extension rules, they also apply for FA.

The term limits apply to both extensions and FA contracts.
