Marlins are making this trade to free up almost $7M in cap room for this year. Lose some draft picks but pick up a RP and a prospect I like.

Red Sox make this deal to acquire decent picks as well as a veteran outfielder on 3/4 scholarship for this year to help fill out my roster, which is thin in outfielders. Low payroll I can afford Rivera. Thanks to the Marlins!

As long as you're going to pay that $6.5 million salary then I have no problem with it otherwise it amounts to fraud and I'll have to veto.

The Red Sox have to pay the $6.5M. Any team that signs someone and the player retires is still responsible for the contract. We do not have a retirement clause, so the Red Sox are responsible for the remainder of the deal as long as the trade is approved.
