The Cardinals and Cubs are pleased to announce the following trade:
C Avila, Alex, $0.5m (P-2013)
CI Freese, David, $0.5m (P-2012)
for
P Miller, Shelby, $0.5m (P-n/a)
The Cubs get Shelby Miller; a rising star and one of the top pitching prospects in the game as they try to rebuild the farm system by acquiring a piece with significant long-term value. While I am aware that I am relinquishing two young position players with excellent contracts that will surely help the Cardinals this upcoming season, it is my belief that this deal is more beneficial to the Cubs as I look to rebuild for the long-term through the acquisition of high-ceiling young talent.

The Cardinals confirm. We expect Shelby Miller to be one of the top future SPs but welcome Avila and Freese to contribute to the team this year. Freese's contract should actuall by $0.5m (P-2013) since he reached the 50 game MLB plateau in 2010.
