Title: Braves/Cards strike an interleague trade
Post by: Mr.TradeKing on October 12, 2010, 04:22:21 PM
:ATL: Receives:

SP Garcia, Jaime, $0.5m (P-2013)
RP Moylan, Peter, $1m (2011)

:STL: Receives:

CI Moreland, Mitch, $0.5m (P-n/a)?
CI-OF Allen, Brandon, $0.5m (P-n/a)

I hate giving up two promising CI's, but I want to win in 2011 and my pitching is the my glaring weakness. Jaime Garcia is a favorite of mine (I tried all season to get him) and is on a prospect contract. Peter Moylan replaces Grant Balfour (headed to Washington) in the bullpen. As always it was a pleasure!

Confirmed.  I did not want to give up Garcia but this trade gives me the offensive depth to make it through the injuries in 2011 and future years.  The lineup is taking shape and hopefully we can find another SP.  BTW Brandon Allen should be $0.5m (P-2013).

This is a good deal for both team.  I think Garcia will be good for a while, Allen and Moreland look like quality major leaguers as well.

How promising are Moreland and Allen?  The Cards are rolling the dice here - I would rather have Garcia, a proven young pitcher.  Great trade for Atlanta, and although I think they win out, it is still fair with the prospecting...
