Title: News Flash: Extensions & Free Agency 12/24/17
Post by: Flash on December 24, 2017, 01:46:10 PM
Let me begin by wishing all of you Happy Holidays!  May your Christmas be the merriest and your New Year be safe and fulfilling.

I thought it best to clarify some things and send out a few reminders.

1) There are a few teams that can still request extensions for (P-2017) players that were on their roster last season.  The deadline for those extensions is 12/31/17 (Midnight).  At 12:01 am on 12/31/17, all (P-2017) players will become free agents if they have not been extended.

2) There has been some confusion regarding extensions for (P-2018) players, so I wanted to direct your attention to a rule governing those extensions.

The rule is: No matter what the current prospect contract is, the prospect extension kicks in the following year at the rate based on when the contract is given.

During the current off-season, the “following year” is 2018.  In order to have a current $0.5m (P-2018) remain in tact for the 2018 season, an extension for such a player would have to be requested during the actual 2018 season- - meaning on Opening Day at the very earliest.  The one “catch, however, is that the extension would be based on 2018, 2017, and 2016.  So if a player gets off to a hot start and “improves” his ranking, the extension would be based on the highest player ranking.  Timing is, therefore, a factor.

3:  Free Agency will begin and we wil adhere to the following schedule.

1/08/18- FA opens up for CI / DH
1/22/18- FA opens up for P
2/05/18- FA opens up for OF
2/19/18- FA opens up for MI
3/05/18- FA opens up for C

Please review the free agency rules I have listed below.

Free Agency Bidding

* You do not need to post how many years you are offering the contract until you win the bid.

* Salaries must be valued in multiples of $500k.

*Bids on a player are considered final when it has not been bid on for 72 hours.

*The winning bid will be the highest total contract amount.  Note that term limits apply after a bid is won.

*Once you have won the bid on a player, you then must open a spot on your roster for the player.  If your roster is at the maximum number of players, then you must declare who you wish to release.  After this, you must set the contract terms.  Once this is done, the commissioner will edit your roster.

*There is no limit to the number of players that can be auctioned at one time or the number of bids for a player. Please make sure you have enough cap money to cover all your bids.

*Note that bids on players that may fall under prospect contracts work differently.  The prospect contract has its own set of rules at a league minimum salary.  Any amount over $0.5m may be considered a signing bonus, and is on a team's books even if they release the player.  Signing bonuses are guaranteed money!

*Bids cannot be edited under any circumstances.  Editing a bid will render it invalid.  Should the an issue requiring an edit arise, contact the league moderator(s) via PM to get adequate resolution.

As always, if you have a question regarding league matters or issues, please PM either Rick (BHows) or me, preferably both of us, and we will do our best to help.
