Title: Position Eligibility Adjustments
Post by: ldsjayhawk on February 23, 2021, 04:35:35 PM
Are there going to be any adjustments made for position eligibility based on last year only having 60 games?

Also, what is the policy on players that solely played DH?  I know some leagues require a player to have a position (other than UT), but I cannot remember if this league is like that?

I believe the position eligibility will be addressed but it may be limited to players who are solely eligible for DH because of the shortened year (for example I have Garrett Cooper who was a 1B/OF but got played at DH because of the shortened season and lost all other eligibility, he should get back his 1B since that is his normal position), or RP when they're a SP in a normal year. We don't have any standing rule that a player must have a position outside of UT.

A batter is eligible at a position if he appeared at that position in 20 games the previous year or 10 games in the current year. A pitcher is eligible as a starting pitcher if he started 5 games the previous year or 3 games in the current year. A pitcher is eligible as a relief pitcher if he made 8 relief appearances in the previous year or 5 relief appearances in the current year.

It doesn’t need to be an exact equivalent since 20 games is like 12.5% and that would be like 7 games to qualify at a position, but I do think we should cut it to maybe 10 games from last season because of the 60 game schedule. Nobody should be punished for the short season, positional eligibility wise.

Decision here is we are going 8 games played for this past 2020 shorted season in terms of batter position eligibility.

Update has been made on Fantrax and looks like it is automatically taking this into account. Any issues for a specific player just let us know.
