Title: Poll: Reduce FYPD Rounds
Post by: Anthony on February 18, 2022, 07:00:14 PM
This is a simple change that will make running the league easier. Although it didn't get the needed support in the original proposal thread, I'm moving it to emergency vote due to the loss of Flash and I see the draft being a real hassle for whoever takes control of it.

This will still need 16 votes to pass.

The extra rounds benefit small market teams by not requiring them to bid their salary cap on talent.  Any opportunity to throw the small market teams a bone, I'll support it.

Not sure I see the benefit of cutting it down. Teams that don't want to draft anymore can opt out. If we go to less rounds teams will just sign rookies to FA contracts and then may get bid up on them. And the admin work would be the same. Only difference is it doesn't happen during the draft but after.

Also if we decide to cut the rounds down, maybe we should consider allowing trading of draft picks?

I will leave this is the hands of the folks running the draft. If you feel it will ease your burden, by all means I support the decision to reduce the number of rounds. I don't think we should have less than 5 rounds though.

Idk if this is feasible, but if we do a 5 round Draft, could we expand it 2 rounds for the teams rebuilding, or the teams needing the picks the most? May seem uneven I know, but said owners also will have the right to opt out. If not this, could we provide some other way to level the playing field if there truly is any?

One idea might be reduced salary of up to 2 players for rebuilding teams, but cannot be same position, and ideally 1 SP/RP and 1 bat? Reduced salary limited though of course to say a 20% haircut or so for no more than 2 seasons?

This did not get enough support, nor did it get enough votes. It will be tabled for now
