Yankees trade:
CI Encarnacion, Edwin, $16m (2018)
X-Encarnacion, Edwin, Cash Exchange, $16m in 2018
RP Vail, Tyler, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Giants trade:
SP-RP Williams, Taylor, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Chirinos, Yonny, $0.5m (P-n/a)


The Yankees will send Encarnacion to the Giants for a couple of prospects as they continue to gather prospects for expiring contracts. Encarnacion is another CI that can help the Giants down the stretch as the second half of the season is approaching. NYY will gain more prospects to build on their team for the future.

Injuries are a big part of a team’s success, whether in real-life or fantasy play, so the Giants are acquiring Edwin Encarnacion as a player who, although not producing as in the past, can be inserted into the lineup as a CI or UT.  Right now Panda is filling in for an injured Longoria, but when Longoria comes back, a player like Encarnacion will help plug a hole in the lineup when Panda returns to the bench.  Even today, one of my regular CIs is out with an injury, so the Giants hope the acquisition of Encarnacion will help down the stretch.
