Title: IP Hard Cap
Post by: bap9 on December 30, 2012, 12:49:15 PM
I am a new member to this league and as such should probably keep my mouth shut; however, I have always believed that if you disagree with something you should say so.

I would be very curious to know how many of the 30 GM’s in this league agree with a 65 IP Hard Cap with penalties for violations.

I have not seen a Hard Cap IP in all the fantasy baseball I have played .  With rare exceptions even the Cap on Games Started is usually Soft as well.

Nobody has any idea of the number of innings that pitchers will throw on Sunday,
you could be at 55 IP after Sat, use 1 SP and 1 RP and exceed the limit (a complete game and a 4 out relief stint)

I see no purpose for a Hard Cap other than making it a Hitters league. If GM’s want a real Hitters league, change the roster.

No problem with the cap as it is.  a few more innings would not hurt.

The 65IP/8GS limit is the same as MB.

I dont think we've discussion repercussions for exceeding the limit. The reason hard cap is used is because Fantrax doesn't allow for soft cap.

Fantrax uses a soft cap
on IP and/or Games Started

That is what is used in Money Ball, New Era, DME, FBF

Roy, I don't think we agreed to the 3 strike rule for the upcoming season.

If I remember correctly, we decided to implement a GS/IP cap and manually adjust points if teams go over these caps.

Please forward the post that states the above, because all I recall is putting the 65 IP rule to a re-vote due to complaints late in the year.  I have no recollection about changes to the hard cap or penalties associated with breaking the new IP/GS rule (see post below).

Last year Moneyball used a soft cap of 75 IP and 9 GS on Fantrax
and New Era used a soft cap of 80 IP and 10 GS

Rangers went over the # of games started in Week 1 : it turns out no maximum has been set. This has been correctly for week 1. Roy, if you are ok with it I am going to retroactively bench a couple of your starters in week 1.

I went over by 2 GS.  You can bench the last 2 starts I had for the period, and they were Axelrod and Colon on Saturday.
