The problem I see with making it  that an offer sheet would (at least) have to meet or exceed the extension value. is that noone will bid on RFA's because there extension values are too high. Then we will just bid on them in FA and noone will get compensated

I would give up a 2nd round pick to have Scheen locked up for 3 years at 3.3M because I feel that this kid is going to tear it up. I wouldn't give up a first because I would expect someone that is good now in exchange for my first.

To me, it is a trade - in exchange for a draft pick, I get the player I want now. I no longer have to fight with the people in FA to get the player I want, and all it cost is a 2nd round pick.

Emergencies are unpredictable; they can happen at any time. And the last thing you are thinking about in any emergency situation is your fantasy team. We need to give some kind of time period to mitigate this.

There's a really steep learning curve for new GM's and I think we're in danger of getting a little too complex. If new layers of rules are introduced they should be as streamlined as possible.

That said, if the consensus is that more proprietary rights are needed in the 2nd extension period there's an easy fix. Just assign the first 24hrs as exclusive to re-signing and allow offer sheets after that time has elapsed.

Personally I believe the ability to match a hostile offer negates any need for this.

Trading picks for players happens all the time. If someone is up against the cap and hasn't managed to extend or trade their RFA then why not give other GM's the option to pay compensation for the asset?

Again, if everyone thinks the price is too steep you will have a chance to pick up the player for less in free-agency.

me being a new guy, it seems to be getting very confusing. maybe I have to.sit down and read more thoroughly but I dont see why simpler is a bad thing. yes you want it to be like the real.nhl but we all.know that it isnt or will be like that.
