The Pittsburgh Penguins know what it is like to have a superstar player have to sit out because of a concussion. It looks like it may happen again only it is not Sidney Crosby but Evgeni Malkin. With 15:09 remaining in the third period in their game with the Florida Panthers on Friday, Malkin got shoved by Panther defenceman Erik Gudbranson into the end boards with his head snapping back into the boards. It was not a dirty play on Gudbranson's part, just an unfortunate slide into the boards for Malkin.
“I just finished my check,” Gudbranson said. “You never want to see a guy go down. He’s in a vulnerable position. But you can’t pass up a hit. It’s unfortunate that he got hurt on the play, but it’s one I’d take every time.” Malkin is expected to miss Sunday's game with Tampa and it is not yet known if he will accompany the team when they go on a road trip next week.
