New York Islanders have placed goalie Rick DiPietro on waivers. He is expected to clear waivers and report to their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers as no team is expected to claim him because of a ridiculous 15 year/$67.5m contract he signed in 2006, of which he has 8 years/$36m remaining. What makes that contract even worse is that DiPietro has been plagued with injuries since signing it. Islanders are expected to call up Kevin Poulin.
