Braves/Tigers Trade
« on: January 31, 2013, 03:40:59 PM »
Hot off the Press the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting the Braves and Tigers have made a deal. Reports say that

MI Walker, Neil, $0.4m (P-2013)
SP Marcum, Shaun, $9.5m (2014)
3-21 ATL

are headed to Detroit for

SP Cain, Matt, $14m (2015)
   -$4m paid in 2013
SP Crosby, Casey, $0.3m (P-n/a)
OF Benson, Joe, $0.3m (P-n/a)

Kinda a tough deal for us. As most know I think Marcum is very underrated. Losing MI depth is never a smart thing, but double edge for me. It helps me get a few youngsters who should help my overall depth sooner rather than later. Im definitely not fond of gaining cap in future years, but the additional year on Cains deal  makes it worth it. After seeing FA, ill take the extra year.

Thanks Shed for the smooth talks.

:DET: approved

Tigers brass covet Neil Walker who's bat plays well in PIT in the two-hole in front of McC, plus his ripe age of 27 and favorable contract/renewal make him an ideal member our squad and worthy of selling high on Mr. Matt "Consistent" Cain. Marcum is a solid No.3 starter with No.2 potential. We like his move to the Mets staff and potential there. Adding a pick helps weigh the deal. We felt we could downgrade from Cain to Marcum since our SP staff is strong. The loss of older specs Benson and Crosby hurts our depth, but both are at positions we felt we could lose some.

Thanks Corey, good deal for both  :winner:
