CHC/PHI (Kemp, Masterson, Samardzija, Peralta, Thornburg)
« on: December 31, 2012, 05:59:32 PM »
Heading to the Chicago Cubs :CHC:
P - Wily Peralta AAA
P - Tyler Thornburg AA
P - Jim Henderson AAA
CF - Matt Kemp $20M (2019)

Heading to the Philadelphia Phillies :PHI:
SP - Justin Masterson $4M (5th year of PC)
SP - Jeff Samardzija $2M (4th year of PC)

The :CHC: do this to get a bonafide star bat signed at a long term deal.  We will be building our team around Kemp at this time.  Plus we receive 2 good young arms to replace the ones heading out at this time.  Henderson gives a cheap RP too.

Phillies make the trade to get out of a hugh contract of 7 yrs

Received 2 very good pitchers at a reasonable price

The young arms may or may not develop

Good deal for both teams. :CHC: gets a lot of talent. :PHI: gets to cut Kemps giant contract.  Kemp is definitely awesome, but 20% of your cap space on one player can be constrictive and pretty risky.

  • RyanJames5: Only reason I'm not really pissed is Castillo was probably a stupid bid for me anyway. I already may have 2 starting catchers and no starting 1B or 3B. I know I won't be in contention.

  • RyanJames5: I'd be in favor of a rule that limited it, but I just haven't seen one that really makes sense. Just irks me because I wouldn't do it to someone.  I'm on often enough that if I haven't bid on someone in the first 35-40 hours I don't need to
