Atlanta Braves sign OF B.J. Upton to 5-year $75m+ deal
« on: November 28, 2012, 10:54:48 PM »

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that B.J Upton's deal with the Braves is for five years and $75.25 million.

$15.05m/year is considered very high for the elder Upton.  What do you think of the move?  Will he perform up to expectations with his new team?  Will he improve with a move to the National League?

Rip-off for sure. Glad it wasn't my Phillies this time, but we do need OF.

Upton has all the talent in the world, but effort and brains have always been lacking, seems like Bourne would have been cheaper, and more consistent.

It is an ok move.  Smart to get something done early before FA $$$ gets out of hand.  Pros, RHB with power, probably hits 5 or 6, solid D and some speed on the basepaths.  Cons, between Uggla and Upton there will be lots of millions of dollars striking out.

I think you will see Bourn get more money than Upton got.

Braves now need to trade Tommy Hanson for a leadoff hitter.  Denard Span fits well, put him in left and Prado at 3b.  Also a guy like Chris Nelson for 3B and hitting leadoff may make sense.  Maybe a package of Hanson and Teheran to the Royals could get Gordon for LF.  Who knows, but Braves need.to deal Hanson to fill a need.

If Bourne gets more $$ then maybe it was a good move, Hanson & Teheran would be too much to give for Gordon IMO, but I do like Gordon in ATL
