Houston/Cincinnati Trade
« on: November 25, 2012, 07:39:39 PM »
:HOU: gives:
SP - Alexander Torres
RP - Rafael Soriano $11.7m (2013)
$6M in 2012 Cap (attached to Soriano)

:CIN: gives:
SP - Taylor Guerreri
CI - Seth Mejias-Brean

:HOU: accepts.
We pick up a pitcher who we think might have ace potential (or high-end #2).  We are thrilled to cut over $5M in 2012 cap space, as well.  Torres and Soriano are both nice players, but we couldn't pass on Taylor's arm.

:CIN: agree.

Taking aim at competing in 2013, Guerreri and Mejias-Brean do little to nothing to contributing.  Tampa is notoriously slow bringing up young pitching, meaning Guerreri could be more like 3 or 4 years from real contributions.

In return for dealing two very talented specs, I get a near ready SP/RP in Torres who, if he can limit his BB/9 could be a very successful pitcher.  Having a strong K/9 and GB%, I am hopeful his stature does not keep him from staying a starter.  Also acquired, is a closer looking for a home.  Even as setup man, Soriano would have value due to high Ks total.  And the kicker is the possibility that Soriano ends 2012 as a Draft Pick Compensation worthy RP.  The $6m towards his remaining contract makes the price tag on Soriano stomachable.

Thanks to :HOU: for working to find agreeable terms.

  • Brent: I did a trade in a dynasty league that I have been in for 9 years that you probably would've jumped up and down to veto.  I gave, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, Jay Bruce and Matt Harvey for Howie Kendrick, John Lackey, Matt Kemp, Aaron Harand and Kris Bryant.  My target was Kris Bryant and I am doing a complete rebuild.  I could care less about Nelson Cruz and Jay Bruce and what they are doing now, it what Bryant will do for my lineup later.

  • Brent: Well Jonathan you are co-commish of the league why don't you just use your powers and veto the deal.  Let's see how well that goes over with GMs in the league.  You can't dictate how people run "Their" teams.

  • OUDAN: I get it JD unfortunately those are the boys I need lol
    Today at 02:02:36 PM

  • Brent: Yeah, and over valuing Kendall Wright.
  • Jdwalter21: most do. my team isn't in complete rebuild mode so not selling off

  • OUDAN: I get  it I'm after upgrades. Some of your young cheap SPs interest me but I have tons already
    Today at 02:06:47 PM
  • Brent: Well Linder is doing what I did.  We took over teams that we had no role in their current state so we are putting our stamp on the teams.  I have completely revamped the Seahawks in how I want them to be built.
