Cubs and Cards Trade
« on: August 02, 2012, 04:10:31 PM »
Cubs and Cards agree to the following trade:

Cubs give:
SP Feldman, Scott, $5.8m  (2012)   $5.8m (Cubs to pay 2012 salary)

Cards give:
RP Marinez, Jhan, $0.3m  (P-n/a  $0.3m  $0.3m  $0.3m  $0.3m  $0.3m  $0.3m

Cubs do this deal to secure a good MI or closer for the future.  Had no intent to extend Feldman, who was acquired to assist another team cap wise, for Alex Wilson.  Marinez is the #6 prospect of the White Sox per BA.  Young (24), already received a brief call up to the bigs earlier, and actually pitched in the Futures Games after being in the ML.

Cards to confirm.  Good to work a deal again with you Dan The Trader!

I give up some talent but at this point think its known we are selling it all and going for it thanks sports Feldman will hopefully be a useable SP the rest of the way

  • 9inches: I love looking at trade blocks and seeing that the majority of the names up there are players that were signed (by someone) to a much too large contract during FA.

  • Dan Wood: I have a feeling that two SD signings from last year will reach the drop pile
    Today at 07:23:39 PM
  • 9inches: It's funny. Shields was signed at market value... he, of course just didn't keep up that value (not quite).
  • Dan Wood: correct - the contract that the Yanks dropped him on

  • Dan Wood: Murphy was like the last FA signed
    Today at 07:26:52 PM

  • 9inches: yeah... i thought i might swipe him at $3m/yr... but him and barney were driven up when we got a couple new GMs
    Today at 07:28:33 PM
  • 9inches: I kinda like the Rays philosophy with their RPs... overpay, but low years. I realize that doesn't work that well with MB rules$

  • 9inches: though it doesn't matter for your point.
  • Scalious: We only have limited farms.. So its easier to take fliers on up and coming RP. While in the real MLB. The better upside RP arms have to be traded for.

  • Scalious: Oh. Yes. I agree. I like higher AAV short term deals
